Foot locators come to your town and locate door to door. The main advantage is they see the building and can tell what type of neighborhood the location is in. The disadvantage is that they typically stay in one area and try to get as many locations in a short amount of time as they can. The longer they stay in an area the less money they make. With our telemarketing service, I use a professional database that tells me how many employees, the amount of sales a business does in a year and in many cases, has a picture of the building so I can see if it is clean and well kept. If you lose a location for any reason, I can typically have a new location for you with in 1-2 business days, whereas a foot locator will not typically come back to your area to locate one machine.
Getting great locations is not always easy, sometimes it can take a while and everyday that your machine is not on location, you are losing money. You can usually make your locating fee back within the first couple of months and if your location does not work out, the guarantee most locators have will get you another location instead of you starting from square one and wasting more time.
If a bulk locator offers you an extended guarantee such as two years, be sure to read the fine print on the contract. They usually require you to keep your machine on location for 90 days and then they have another 90 days to find a replacement location. That means you are stuck in a bad location for six months. Meanwhile, some of them also require you to send a certified letter weekly with your collection totals to justify a replacement. They create impossible hoops for you to jump through in order for your guarantee to be valid.
